I am not a professional golfer but was asked to coach the local High School team. After looking into it I couldn't commit the time needed to do a good job so I passed. My sense is that the team has x ammount of practices per week in shich the coach can work with the kids. If the player needs extra time-weekends for example, then I think the pro shpuld be compensated for his time-otherwise he is forgoing paying students. What he should do is give them a student discount. In terms of whether this is a issue for picking the team, I think in golf on the h.s. level you can tell who is shooting par and who can't break 85.
