Week Two Update...
First "scoring" round of the year and I shot an 83; (41 Front/42 Back).
1 Birdie, 9 Pars, 5 Bogeys, 2 Doubles, 1 Triple, 6 Greens, 5 Fairways, 31 putts,
A roller coaster round which started out Bogey, Par, Bogey, TRIPLE, followed by 5 Pars in a row with a nifty up and down through the trees on 9 featuring a 15 footer for par.
Back nine started with a Bogey followed by hitting a Par 5 in two with a gorgeous 5-iron shot from 212 out (195 Front) missed the Eagle but cinched the Bird.
After that it was a collection of 3 pars, 2 Doubles and 3 Bogeys most (if not all) caused not by bad shotmaking so much as bad decisions. For instance, I short-sided myself off the tee on a par 3 and had what should have been a simple pitch on over a bunker and maybe make the putt or at worst end up with 4. But instead of pitching with my 51 - the club I have had the most practice with since getting back into the game - I chose a 55, which I have never even swung yet this year. Result: got waaay under the ball and plugged it under the lip of the bunker. After several comments beginning with "mother", I punched it out, chipped up and settled for a double, "Ugh!"
I'm glad about one thing though; my bad scores were the result of "blow ups" caused either by me or by bad luck (which I can deal with better than dumb mistakes) and that, to me, is better than shooting, say, all bogeys or something like that which means I'm not getting it done from tee to green.
Blow ups I can fix, (at least in terms of making poor choices or decisions) so there are really no worries there and overall I'm not at all disappointed despite leaving at least four strokes out there today.
Of course the 18th was a dream (it seems like a "good" 18th is a rule to keep us coming back), with a fairway-splitting drive in which I finally rolled my wrists the way they should roll and the ball screamed off the clubface. I followed that with a perfect wedge and burned the cup on the birdie putt and took a solid par.
All-in-all, considering it's been 2 1/2 years away from the game, I really can't find anything to be mad about other than not thinking through a few situations and playing a shot or a club I shouldn't have played.
I'll work on that before next time and boy am I gonna have a talk with myself about doing "dumb stuff"!
Can't wait for next week!
