Google music sounds pretty good, but Subsonic looks even better - never heard of it before! I always take my Desire & my iPod around with me and I'd love to be able to drop one of them (the ipod obviously).

Going to have to look into this a bit further, what phone to do you stream to? How does it affect the battery life?
It's a basically free. All you need is to install the server software on a pc (I have it installed on my windows home server machine), after setup and the music has been loaded it streams music to all your devices. There are apps available for WP7, IOS, PC, MAC etc... all of the apps cost 5 euros or less.

I have two apps on my iphone zsubsonic and iSub.

iSub is quite a bit better and has a nicer interface.

Basically then this app works like your ipod, the music is streamed to your device everywhere (WIFI and 3G), you can set the bitrate etc and it automatically chaches the songs played.

Works wonders, I was streaming songs on a remote wifi in while on holiday in greece from my server here in Malta.

It uses as much battery life as if you're using both 3G and mp3 player at the same time unless the song is already cached on your phone. I haven't found it to be too detrimental.
