Very close...
Image quality wise, they're both very good. So your choice would be based on other aspects such as features and handling.
The biggest differences I can see are listed below:
Panasonic
Wider lens (24mm equiv)
Faster lens (higher shutter speed in low light)
Smaller, considerably lighter
Canon
Swivel LCD
More physical buttons/switches
Optical viewfinder for shooting in bright sunlight
Longer lens
Considering what the camera will be used for (travel/holiday camera) I would give the Panasonic the edge, due to its pocketable size/weight and its wider lens which is great for landscape and scenery.
