I know they don't. But at the time I was not licensed to carry, and while in the state of GA a license isn't necessary to keep a firearm in my car....there is no proof per say that it is mine and/or I've obtained that firearm legally unless they were to run the serials. So just from looking at it from that aspect it seemed fuzzy to me.

For reference; I've only owned a firearm for ~7-8 (maybe 9?) months now. Not stating I am ignorant of my rights or the laws. Just that I had some assumptions about how such situations would have gone down.
It's a perfectly sensible thing to let the cops know there were weapons in the car as it just needs one to over-react on spotting a firearm and it could get messy.
