His actions saved hundreds of lives; I'd say that makes him a hero. You can't just say he was "just doing his job", these were extraordinary circumstances.

Well doesn´t that make every doctor/surgeon a Hero too ?
They save thousands of lives each year.

Sry to me a Hero is something else.
