What about headphones? The ones you put into your ears are deceptively damaging as they can still cause damage at lower noise levels than normal.
Oh dear I do use headphones and in-ears, so used to them that speakers simple don't cut it in terms of detail anymore. I can also hear the high pitch noise from TVs like some of you guys here.

tinnitus is a bitch and can affect on different levels, I think far to many years of clubbing and being obsessed with car stereos going as loud and as much bass as possible has done it.
wow your case really worries me, gotta cut down on headphones from now on. I have heard of people listening to static noise with a earphone+mp3 player at low volume during sleep just to cover the perpetual ringing. Maybe this will make your woman happier..
