Wow! I think I was right to be cautious. Look at what is posted on my bank's homepage this morning: 'A fraudulent email and counterfeit website, disguised as a Desjardins account verification notice, has been circulated to Internet users nationwide with the intention of targeting unsuspecting VISA customers. In an attempt to appear legitimate, these unsolicited messages are disguised as coming from VISA Desjardins, Coast Capital Savings’ credit card provider. The email directs members to a counterfeit Desjardins' AccèsD website where they are asked to provide their VISA card number, password, social insurance number and date of birth with the assumption that their account needs to be verified. With this information, the thieves can attempt to use the information to access the customer’s VISA account. This email and website are fraudulent and are not from VISA Desjardins. Coast Capital Savings and VISA Desjardins do not solicit members for their confidential information by email or otherwise, unless a request to that effect is made by the client. Coast Capital Savings and VISA Desjardins email messages do not contain links or non-secure web access requiring the use of personal or confidential information. If you receive such an email, do not respond in any way or use the link to visit the fraudulent site. Members are advised to delete the fraudulent email. Members who did visit the site and entered personal information are asked to contact VISA Desjardins at 1-866-877-9444 or Coast Capital Savings Contact Centre at 604-517-7000 (Greater Vancouver) or 483-7000 (Greater Victoria) or toll free at 1-888-517-7000 Mon-Sat, 8am-8pm.' However, I just got off the phone with them and they assured me that this e-mail is legit and from them. I guess I'll fax it in then. I told them it looks fishy, though. They ought to dress it up with come contact info and a header of some sort. I mean, it really looks like a spammed hotmail message. Makes me wonder if I even want a credit card with this company now.
