Where is she going to be using it the most, if it is mainly in low light conditions, then I recommend the Fuji F30 (I haven't actually used one, but it seems to get a lot of good reviews):

The F30 isn't bad in day light, but there are better cameras out there if that is what you are mainly going to be shooting in (but you probably won't find one better in low light, in this price range).
