improve the ride? dude wtf are you smoking 14" wheels will have like say 185 70 r14tires
if you went to 17" you'll have like 195 35 r17. you loose 3 inches of rubber, you basicaly riding on pure medal no rubber, the more rubber you have the better the ride is. a 17" wheel will be heavier then a 14" wheel and makes the car harder to brake and you dont get as good acceleration.
