Okay so from what you have said.... correct me if im wrong... but its wrong for female to smile and male and male to smile at female?
Also if a female smiles at female its sunnah and male smiles at male its sunnah?

Let's clarify the crux:

- It's not permissible for men to look at/stay/talk with a woman who is not his mehram (i.e. Islamically not permitted to interact with her freely) and vice versa.

- So, if anyone smiles at others of opposite gender with whom he/she is not permitted to interact with, this will violate the obligatory rule.

- But in case of permitted persons, smiling is necessary because it is a Sunnah.
