I asked a sheikh about how to become closer to Allah swt and he said to pray the night prayer. At the time I did not follow his advice because I thought it was too hard, but recently having made an effort he was so right. I don't know why but avoiding sin becomes so much easier if you prayed the night prayer, I wish I had followed his advice earlier. So just make a sincere effort to pray tahajjud and keep it consistent, inshaAllah your desires will collapse.
