It's very important to understand that many of the African slaves that were transported to North America in the transatlantic slave trade were Muslims. There is plenty of documentation of many of our ancestors trying to preserve our deen. I believe that groups like the the Moorish Temple of Science, NOI,etc. were certainly outside the fold of Islam however it appeared to be an attempt of many of our ancestor trying to go back and return what was taken from us and Allah knows best
