Today I overheard my father talking and he mentioned that his father (my grandfather), was a student of mawlana Husain Ahmad Madani in Calcutta. This was news to me! My father never mentioned it (he was surprised that I even knew who Madani saheb was). I didn't get to ask him much about it, but he said my grandfather brought hazrat Madani to Sylhet and they established some madrasah there (I forgot the name, I will ask again inshallah). Also, my grandfather studied hadith with him and was given ijazah. There are some other details I forgot, I will ask when I get a chance. My grandfather's name is Ibrahim Ali, son of Munshi Elahi Bakhsh, who is a descendant of someone named Sayyid Qutubuddin, who was one of the people who settled with Shah Jalal in Sylhet. I would be grateful if anyone could perhaps give me some more information about this. My grandfather had written several books in bangla/farsi/urdu/arabic, but many of these were lost (unfortunately, his children did not pay attention to preserving the legacy). I would love to track some of these down if possible.
