Pittsburg has the best suburban atmosphere I have ever expierenced, there's block parties almost every single night. Its a beautiful, clean city that was also awarded the best city to live in, which I believe is the title of this thread.

I am not at all a fan of midwestern cities and was under the impression that Pittsburgh would be economically depressed and dirty. Its the contrary when steel moved out, high-tech moved in, its history has been preserved though and they are very proud of their heritage. Downtown is bustling, at the corners are the strip district which has some of the best clubs and shopping, and there's the most beautiful university campuses, scattered among them are beautiful parks, I was able to see wild turkeys in the city limits, the cathedral of learning which is open to tours, and an array of museums, it also has great local eateries, among them I had a spicy sausage sandwhich which was topped with french fries between the bread, and at another a 1LB. hotdog with bacon, chilli, cheese, and a million other concotions. They also have among the best Mexican I have ever had.

The area across from downtown is also vibrant. There are countless of endowments left by Carnegie and other industrialists. There's one of the most sucessful riverfront shopping and entertainment venues, perhaps for its combination of modern shopping venues which is comprable to Time Warner Center mixed with re-use of beautiful art-deco buildings. Although at the outskirts entertainment is grouped together, all the stadiums, the science center, and other family friendly venues are in a close radius, each is newly built. A little further is a district of galleries built out of old factory space, with the spaced allotted some of these galleries were able to make quite an artistic statement in their life-size interactive and mind-bending works of art.

There are hills all around Pittsburgh, Im a huge fan of cities that have this look, its why I like LA, and would like to visit Vancouver. However Pittsburgh best utilizes its natural assets, there is a tram that hugs the side of the hills, the tram runs up a cord, it dates from the beginning of the century and its a little scary. At the top though there are the most beautiful views of the skyline, which features a nice array of modern buildings and you're at eye level with them.

I walked away with a very positive impression of Pittsburgh. In addition the people are very friendly and liberal minded.
i'm glad you think so highly of this area! it really is a nice place to be usually. you're right about the people, everyone is rather friendly compared to other big cities in pennsylvania *cough*.
