So, I do need to run it before I update it? The directions say to update before I run it. I'm so confused. You have to take me by the hand and guide me.

he doesn't mean "run the program", he means "run the scan". You have to run the program to update it. when the update is complete, make the preference menu changes, then run the scan.

the format is similar in concept to norton. you can open it and do stuff to the program before you can run the scan. Same concept.
