Comments from DSLreports.com re: Hughes net:

If you have no choice, it's much better than dial-up, but it is way too costly for what you get.

At this point I can recommend this service as a LAST resort only. Please, LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR YOUR INTERNET. Satellite isnt worth it.

After filing a complaint with the FCC, I was contacted by a Hughes 'executive customer care' rep who took a month off my bill and offered to release me from my contract, so keep this technique in mind.

If there are other options, I would say, "NO!" to brother.

I have satellite TV and DSL. I do not want bundled services that are currently offered through AT&T's u-verse or the cable companies.

My cousin is currently using hughes and is not pleased. She has the money, and it is faster than dial up. She never uses her computer during peak hours as the connection speed can be slower than when she was on dial up. She does not use the internet much more than for email and possibly a web site or 2 per day, if that. She lives smack dab in the middle of nowhere so she is content with the trade off.

Note to self: Never show cousin my connection speed. I think she would stab me through the heart in envy.
