The way I would define a cult classic is this:

It's a movie that just won't die. It may or may not have done so well when it was first released, but it's always being "kept alive" or "being revived" It never seems to be out of circulation. It will have memorable moments in it that everyone who has ever seen it will almost inevitably remember.
