The buffer on the 300D is a bit small and I can see why that bothers some people but the the difference between 6 and 8MP is very small.
You get more shots in a row because the camera starts to write from the buffer onto the memory card leaving free space in the buffer. You can write your card full by holding down the shutter release, but the FPS will drop when the buffer gets full.
