Whinnen played 371 games for West Perth - a league record for games played with the one club. Fantastic player with silky skills and one of the nicest blokes you could ever hope to meet. Sat on the bench in WP's 1960 premiership as either a 17yo or 18yo. Nine best and fairests for the club (also a WAFL record) and played in premierships of 1960 (as a substitute), 1969, 1971 and 1975. Given an MBE for services to footy.
Mal Atwell was a brute of a bloke. I dont mean he was dirty, but he was a tough player and when I met him a few years back his grip was still enough to tear your arm off.
Chaddy was as good a cricketer as he was a footballer, playing for his State in summer and East Perth in winter. Famed for running the ball along the wing at Perth Oval.
I really enjoyed WAFL Rewind. Looking forward to next week's programme.
