4:04 P.M. Giffords Alive, Surgeon "Very Optimistic" of Recovery
A surgeon at a hospital in Tucson said Ms. Giffords was shot in the head, but remains alive and he said he is "very optimistic about her recovery." He declined to say what kind of recovery she might have but said he was "about as optimistic as you can be" in such a situation. Still others present did die from the shooting, including a small child.
