Fancy a Snog? Same-Sex Kissing Common Among UK Male Students
Forget homophobia. A new study finds that same-sex lip-locks among straight men are the norm in British universities and high schools. The trend reflects a move toward a "nicer, softer" ideal of masculinity, study researcher Eric Anderson told LiveScience. Anderson, a sociologist at Bath University in England, reported the findings online Oct. 22 in the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior. "The mean, gruff, homophobic macho man of the 1980s is dead," Anderson said. Based on in-depth interviews of 145 British university and high-school students, Anderson and his colleagues discovered that 89 percent had kissed a male heterosexual friend on the lips at some point. A total of 37 percent had engaged in "sustained" kissing with another man, Anderson said. The men all identified as straight, and they didn't see the kisses as sexual. "These men have lost their homophobia," Anderson said. "They're no longer afraid to be thought gay by their behaviors, and they enjoy intimacy with their friends, just the same as women." Whereas this discovery did shock me, it doesn't exactly come as a surprise. I feel that the Brits have always had a bit of (okay quite a bit of) gay in them. There is a reason why Monty Python made that lumberjack sketch stating "I put on women's clothing and hang around in bars", among other things. The kissing isn't something I've seen personally, but it goes well together with the idea that a man in woman's clothing is not only hilarious, but often also desirable (by other men in women's clothing). I do get the fact that the Brits have far "heavier" perversions than in many other places. That's understandable if you live in the world's dullest country. But why the tendency to gay, or gay-like activities? |

I'm noticing that Androginy in kids is on the rise in most countries in the west. Clothes and make up enhance more this resemblance.
In big Italian towns, I am told that amongst upper class young people, its common to declare some sort of homosexual experiences without being homosexual. In the media many celebrities are declared gay and probably this has contributed to lessen the taboo amongst homosexuality. (Ps there is certainly no relationship between dull weather and the spread of sexual perversions :-D |

In big Italian towns, I am told that amongst upper class young people, its common to declare some sort of homosexual experiences without being homosexual. I tend to look at it more on the regional level. For example, Sicilia, Calabria, Campania, Lombardia, Veneto are far more tradizionale as a whole than the centre of the country and some parts of the Mezzogiorno. I don't know why that is, but I'm sure experts have a reason... like because Toscana was the capital of the Rinascimento, and the Papal States repressed individual freedoms, or something to do with that. |

Umm but that doesn't mean they're gay! It's just for fun
At my school (Private school in Chile) nearly all the boys had kissed a male heterosexual friend on the lips, at parties, just for fun. It's like sometimes they're drunk, sometimes they're not, and they just do it. I think there's nothing terrible at all about it. Of course it doesn't mean the country is full of gays or something. |
