http://www.africanaddiction.com/foru...es/twitcyw.gif Sent pic and recipe to a Cogney friend of mine that has moved to Poole. They invited me offer for a Barbie a while back , I said they first have to practice their 'Braai' skills and I will come. Received response from my friend regarding recent email. Will be trying out the beer can recipe and perfecting it before I come down http://www.africanaddiction.com/foru...es/spinnyw.gif

Is the can full or empty?

According to a Facebook friend of mine - this is the South African way to cook chickens on a braai... now the big question to save my marriage - Karl reckons that the cans of beer/coke are full and cook up into the chicken... I reckon they are just stands to hold them up.

So those in the know please enlighten us... for educational purposes of course.

I don't know.
?????

Paybeskf 09-03-2012 06:44 AM

Come to think of it, the cans would have to be empty...........otherwise you'd have cluck all over the garden........

CoallyPax 09-03-2012 06:44 AM

I just assumed the cans would be full but I guess not as they'd probably explode.

I knew a Chinese family that did a lovely dish of coke and chicken. Took 3 days to do but it was lovely!

Natz I'm afraid Karl is right here is a recipe.

Beer Can Chicken on a Braai
1 can of Castle
1 cardboard box lined with aluminium foil, and with four pen-diameter holes punched in the top.
1 braai with hot coals
1 chicken

Drink two sips from can of Castle, insert it up chicken's bum. Stand the chicken on the braai, using its two drumstick bones and the can as a kind of tripod, to hold it upright. Braai grid should be about 20cm over the coals.

Place cardboard box lined with foil (held in place with strategic use of duct tape) over the chicken. Make sure the foil overlaps the sides of the box so it doesn't catch fire.

Wait one hour.

Eat perfectly roasted, tender chicken.

Do not drink contents of can.

Wow John, so I am guessing the beer bubbles or steams up as a sort of internal marinade? Quite an interesting way of braaing chicken!

Necedofer 09-03-2012 06:44 AM

Sorry don't know I just googled it. Oops wasn't supposed to tell http://www.africanaddiction.com/foru...ilies/eekw.gif

lol, no worries, you are more switched on than I am - I was lazy in hoping someone would know...

Karl thinks we should give it a bash in the summer. We wouldn't need the cardboard box part as we have a gas thing with a lid.

xanonlinexan 09-03-2012 06:44 AM

And theres health benefits as well......lol

Here....

colmedindustry 09-03-2012 06:44 AM

ulw7A8Po 09-03-2012 06:44 AM

I would say the can is empty coz surley it would pop?

Vapepreab 09-03-2012 06:44 AM

http://www.africanaddiction.com/foru...ies/laughw.gifYou learn something new everyday. Looks like it could be quite tasty.

lXvtm0ox 09-03-2012 06:44 AM

The can is open, the beer will boil steaming the chicken from the inside out. Should be quite moist and tasty.
