Default Are Greeks considered dark Europeans?
Are Greeks considered dark Europeans? I am an American and have never really understood the European perspective on this. I've encountered those who say the answer is yes and those who insist the answer is no. When I look up Greeks on Google images I generally get the impression that they are darker overall than lighter, but then again I am curious as to the perception of the average European about this.

I guess the European perspective is that Greeks are Meds and thus they are darker than the average Euro, which is more than logical.

Greeks are phenotypically and genetically in the European periphery.

Some Greeks are darker, some aren't as it has been stated they vary.

In the 1961 version of West Side Story Gus Trikonis who played Indio, one of the Puerto Rican Sharks - and who is actually Greek - is the brother of Gina Trikonis, who played Graziella, the tough red-haired Italian girlfriend of Riff, leader of the Jets.

So you have a Greek brother and Sister who are actors and passed for both a Puerto Rican and the sister passed for Italian. Then again you can argue how much either 'passed', but Greeks would have an easier time than the female lead, Natalie Wood who is Russian in real life and Puerto Rican in the movie.

I don't think greeks are "very" dark from any Northern European perspective,Northern Europe might have the highest % of highly depigmented/almos albino skinned people but many/many aren't darker than your average southern European

these people aren't much lighter than the people I see everyday in Spain(and Spain has a stronger sunlight)

what do you mean by "dark europeans"?
we along with the other "darky" group, the ancestors of the italians placed the foundation of everything that is europe today lol

now, if you are asking "are greeks darker than the other europeans?", then the answer is obviously yes, we get double the amounts of sun a guy in finland gets, and 3/4 of what a guy in cairo does.
apart from the sun, that obviously is there and makes people darker, we also were allways living near the center of activity, at least for the 5000+ years and its not only "white" people who were active.

anyway imo you can judge for yourself :P

according to some info i had found in the past, we get x2-x3 the amount of "sun" people in northen europe do.

I think they vary in lightness, darkness, but if this means anything the owner of my local Greek restaurant chain (who happens to be from Greece) looks kinda like Saddam Hussein, but then again it could be his age and the mustahce.

Actually, that could be false. Only Greeks were "european" at one point.
