Default Most heartbreaking sports losses you've experienced
After reflecting a bit after yesterday's collapse I was wondering which are the biggest heart aches you've had with your teams?

Here are my top 3:

3. Knicks-Rockets, 1994 (Game 7 of the finals, my favorite Knick John Starks has the worst shooting game I'd ever seen going 0-10 in the 4th quarter)

2. Giants-9ers, 2002 (Blew a huge lead and the ref fucks up the last call of the game. I was at OP's house... he really is bad luck.)

1. Yanks-BoSox, 2004 (3 games to 1. Nuff said.)

1999 (98 playoffs)-Atlanta Falcons @ Vikings-Vikings had about 10 different ways to seal the win. They failed on all 10 (FG to clinch it, dropped an easy INT on Falcons drive to tie, poor clock management, etc)

2010-(2009 playoffs)-Vikings at Saints. 12 men in huddle, favre's int, a weird penalty I've never heard before being called (face guarding

Detroit Tigers: Game 163 two seasons ago.

Detroit Lions: They are all heartbreaking, yet funny, in their own unique way.

Chicago Bears: They don't lose.

In 1992, after losing the National League Championship Series the previous two seasons, baseball's Pittsburgh Pirates were one out away from finally winning the NLCS and going to the World Series. Instead, the Atlanta Braves scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth for a 3-2 win, handing the Pirates what many consider the most painful loss in baseball history.

The reason the 1992 NLCS stands out is because everyone knew it was the very last chance the Pirates would have for years to come. And that's turned out to be far more accurate than anyone could have imagined. (who knew it would be 18 years!!)

If you were a Braves fan in 1992, congratulations. But from the Pirates' perspective, the 1992 NLCS was the most painful loss in baseball ever

Can't really rank 'em...But by sport:

Basketball:

Knicks/Bulls Series loss the year "after Jordan"...IE: Kukoc with 1.8...Scottie with the ticky tack. Even with Jordan gone, you felt that we were just gonna win cuz we were "The Bulls"...and we damn near came close.

Football:

Bears Super Bowl loss...My only championship level loss as a fan....so much elation at the start with the kickoff return then it was all a blur of mush after that sans one Thomas Jones big run....Like a slow bleeding death.

Baseball:

Tough one here...There was a multitude of losses via the Twins and the division in the past decade that have hurt...but the one that always sticks in my craw as a fan is one I attended on the 4th of July in 2003 in Tampa Bay...We had just come off sweeping the Twins and taking a series vs. the Scrubs AND made the move for Roberto Alomar and Carl Everett....Bartolo Colon was pitching a gem as we're up 3-1 in the ninth and Billy f*cking Koch is in to close...2 on with 1 out Carl Crawford, who has 1 home run on the season, which was on opening day no less, hits a goddamn home run to walk off 4-3. It was a bad omen...My 4th of July was destroyed and I was so sick to my stomach I hardly enjoyed the rest of the weekend's games (We split the weekend from there...Losing the series 2-1, but you could sense that the team's momentum was destroyed on that f*cking dong)...Horrible, horrible game.

Youre right. I had to actually look it up.

Weird. I chose to never to reflect on that series ever again for obvious reasons... thanks a lot, asshole.

Oh yeah, about the Koch story...I was 2 rows behind Sox dugout to add insult to injury...It was like a morgue in that section...'cept for that one guy that yelled "YOU SUCK KOOOOCCCCHHHHH"....which was the lone moment of humor in a rather dreary sports day...(Still laugh about that...but only because I felt the guy's anger...I wanted to punch Billy Koch in the face so hard.)

Senior year of high school. Football team was undefeated at 6-0 and ranked number 9 in the state. Had a game against our main rival who was also 6-0 and ranked 7 (I believe). We lost 12-0 and I got hurt, forcing me to miss the next two games.

Sorry, but while I enjoy watching sports and do get into them, I typically forget losses within minutes of them happening. So I can't say that there are any painful losses that I wasn't actually a part of.

1993 Phillies World Series

The only world series ever to end on a home run when the team at bat was behind at the time.
