Default Vince Young done in Nashville
Fisher: Vince Young is no longer the Titans starting quarterback

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 21, 2010, 5:06 PM EST

Titans coach Jeff Fisher has seen enough. Vince Young is through as his starting quarterback after another post-game meltdown.

Young suffered a torn flexor tendon in his thumb during the second half and did not return despite being seen on the sideline line warming up. Rusty Smith closed out the contest in a 19-16 overtime loss to the Redskins. Fisher said Young has lost his job regardless of his thumb injury.

As Young was leaving LP Field, Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports Young threw his shoulder pads into the stands as he left the field. Minutes later, he left the locker room in street clothes.

“Safety Michael Griffin, wearing only a pair of shorts, ran out of the locker room and chased Young up a ramp to the players’ parking lot, but was unable to catch him,” Wyatt writes.

Young faced a lot of boos from the home crowd on Sunday, something he has struggled dealing with in the past. He waved to the fans at one point, as if to ask for more. Fisher was visibly upset with Young after the game.

Young’s immediate and long-term future in Tennessee will come under focus after this incident. He’s one of the highest paid quarterbacks in football, and is due $12.75 million next season, including a $4.25 million roster bonus.

UPDATE: Mike Florio reports that Chris Simms can expect to get a call from the Titans, via a league source.

Mike Vick should mentor this troubled young man to complete his comeback.

Time for the Lions to put in a claim for him, and dump Stanton once he's waived.

Not a great QB by any means, but I'd take a shot at him. What the fuck can the Lions lose at this point?

I think only Carolina could trump them, and they have QB issues of their own.

I think Young still has too much of a star to come in as a pure backup, but really it wouldn't shock me to see him end up in Philly at some point.

Claim and pay him 17 mil next season? Thats crazy talk. He'll be cut sooner or later and they can make a run at him then.

He seems to have the ability but he's lacking the mental capacity or maturity to be the man. If he's smart or has an advisor that truly wants to help him, put him in a back up role for a bit so he can grow up then see if he can cut it then.

Ford has made plenty of profits by putting out a piss poor product. Time to give back to the fans.

Sadly I think the salary cap is going to come back someday.

Hmmm... Vince Young flames out [again] a mere 2 weeks after Randy Moss shows up in Nashville.

Probably just a coincidence . . . Probably.

He's turrible. The only time he can make a pass is when he has all day in the pocket and a receiver is glaringly open or a short dump off. I LOVED VY in college (not as much as HOF lol), but in the pros, not a chance.

Are roster bonuses paid upfront with a claim? I thought they just transfered to the team that has the player at the time the bonus is due?

Most roster bonuses are paid at the beginning of the season, not in the middle or end.

Right but if he was waived tomorrow and claimed by the lions, they would assume his contract and whatever length is left which would mean if he's on the roster next year, he'll get a bonus. No way they claim him, release him and then hope to re-sign him.

Kind of scary that he has been looking over McNair's kids. Should have a better father figure than those two have been so far.

Word is that owner Bud Adams loves his Texas boy. He may have to decide...the crybaby or the proven coach.

Would he seriously fire the longest tenured coach in the league for a bitch that sucks?

Good question. Bud Adams is from Texas and he appears to have extreme enjoyment having this ex-Longhorn on his team. Being that Bud is in his late 80's, he's probably starting to lose a little something upstairs.

One Dallas radio sports station is hoping that Bud wants Young over Fisher and the Cowboys pick up Fisher.
