49ers: Woods on the bubbleby Fanball Staff - Fanball.com
Thursday, September 1, 2005 News 49ers' wide receiver Rashaun Woods might be playing for his job when the team faces the Chargers in the preseason finale on Thursday. Woods is locked in a battle for the No. 4 receiving job with Fred Amey and Rasheed Marshall. However, the Niners would take a $2.5 million salary cap hit should they release Woods this year, according to the San Jose Mercury News. The Niners selected Woods with the No. 31 overall pick in the 2004 draft. Views Woods has missed time this summer due to a quadriceps injury. He also missed training camp time last year with hamstring problems. Niners' head coach Mike Nolan is planning to give the second-year wideout a lot of playing time on Thursday so that he can determine whether Woods is the biggest bust of the 2004 draft class. Keep in mind, the Falcons will eat $5.7 million next season because they released Peerless Price earlier this week. In other words, it wouldn't be an unprecedented move if the Niners opt to release Woods and take the cap hit. I thought he was going to be a lot better than this. Of course, it may just be the situation he's in. If he gets cut I'm sure he'll get a look from another team. |
