Default 1926 Buescher True Tone Alto Sax and Accessories (lots of pics)
I thought some of you might be interested in some of these pics. The original pictures are HUGE and it would be too crazy to just post them here (as if posting all these links isn't crazy). I have played sax for about 18 years, but not quite pro. I have been bidding on alto saxes on ebay for a few weeks and finally won one. I practically stole this saxophone!

This is a flyer for Art Higham band instrument repairs. Check out that phone number. You can also see the original leather neck strap.

In the next 24 pics are each page of the Buescher Accessories booklet.

The next few pics are of an antique reed and box. I'm not sure what the wooden plank thing is for. Maybe it's to keep the reed from breaking inside the box? Also I noticed on this reed, it looks like the tip has been burned. Maybe as the reed was getting worn out, the tip was burned down to keep it in playing condition? There is also a date on the back of the reed. I've never seen that before. It says 1930.

In this picture, I'm not sure what this is. I've seen something similar years ago, but I still don't know what it is. I imagine the brass thing goes inside the yellow thing.

I have been unable to open this little cannister but I don't want to force it either. I imagine it is cork grease, but I'm not completely sure.

Here you can see the end of the original Lyre, the key to the case, a spring hook and the ligature to the Buescher mouthpiece.

And a pic of the Buescher Alto Sax mouthpiece.

Well, after posting all these pics, I might as well add a picture of the case and the sax.

First the case. It is in EXCELLENT condition but the high resolution really shows how dirty it is. I should have cleaned it before snapping that shot.

Now the sax. Silver plated and gold washed bell. Not a scratch or dent on it. It is BEAUTIFUL and plays WONDERFULLY! I originally thought I'd disassemble the horn to fix any issues and polish it. But now, it plays so well that I don't want to mess with it. Maybe I'll worry about polishing it later... like in a couple days or so.
Serial number 211xxx.

This is the neck which has a 1 stamped on it. (Buescher aficionados might be interested)

Just so my Tenor sax doesn't feel left out, here is a pic of it. I still prefer Tenor over Alto but now I can practice on both.

Beautiful sax! I personally wouldn't polish it, you'd ruin the patina that gives it that wonderful aged look. Polishing also removes a little bit of material so since it's plated you risk "losing" the silver finish.

This is a silver plated horn. The patina you're referring to is generally associated with brass finishes. There is no patina to speak of on this horn. Polishing it will make the silver shiny and not dull. I've never seen anyone with a silver plated instrument that preferred it being black with silver tarnish.

If it was a bare brass horn with a nice patina, I wouldn't dream of polishing it, but that's not the case here.

It has taken me some time to tame this baby, but I can now play it in tune with a decent sound. I just picked up my Tenor and it is much more difficult after playing the Alto. I didn't think that would happen.
