Default I have it.
Just picked up a Canon 5D MkII body about 30mins ago.

Charging the battery now, and upgrading my CaptureOne software so I can read the RAW files it produces.

Apart from my house, this is the most expensive single thing I've ever bought.

Shots to follow of course

Nice camera congrats on purchase, so what lenses you plan on using with it.

It's mad how much you can spend on a camera i've spent well over £3000 in 2 months on gear.

also get some test shot posted

Right, one quick test shot (YES, its a cat). I still need to play with the camera settings and the RAW converter setting for this RAW type, so the colours etc are not perfect yet - this was a quick first attempt:

http://www.picturepunk.com/photos/5Dtest.jpg

And a couple of 100% crops, for those that like to pixel-peep. The first one is with sharpening disabled in both the camera and the RAW software, so will be naturally soft:

http://www.picturepunk.com/photos/5D100crop.jpg

The second one is with sharpening disabled in the camera, and "normal" sharpening applied in the RAW converter. Basically what you'd see if you left the camera sharpening setting unchanged out of the box:

http://www.picturepunk.com/photos/5D...sharpening.jpg
Note - the eye is deliberately out of focuse due to the depth of field used.

All shots above were from about 3m away using the 100-400L IS lens, handheld at 400mm, 1/160 sec exposure.

It sickens me, you're not even a working photographer are you? unlike me that have to settle for cameras much cheaper...

Also the only thing i can say that is better than using that (other than a 1D Mk III) is that of medium format digital cameras, i.e. hasselblad which... i've used!! £30k camera... scary detail like... i could do a life size print that would have INSANE detail (60mp!)

Since using that ive found it very hard to go back to 35mm digital/film

EDIT: i'm after a 50mm 1.8 lens for my EOS, how much you get yours for? I don't wanna buy one for more than £50 ish but they all go for around £70+ on eBay!

I'm so poor...

I'm not a working photographer at the moment - but I was offered a photography job last week at 500 euro a day that I turned down. I had to turn it down as my fulltime job is crazy-busy at the moment. Luckily the guy that offered me this job will have more work in the future if I want it.

My 50mm F1.8 was 110 euro NEW. For a lens of this price I would buy new not 2nd hand, as you really won't be saving much buying 2nd hand. You always have to question WHY someone is selling a lens (i.e does it have a fault?).....

Setsuken, it sickens you? You should work on your envy issues my friend.

He wanted it, worked hard, finally got enough and bought it. If you too want a camera such as that, being sickened isn't the answer. Being motivated to achieve that goal is the answer. [thumbup]

Dude ive got an ND in photography and a First diploma as well, im not having a go at him im having a joke and a poke! so yeah, chilllllllll!

Ive also done my fair share of weddings, not fun IMO but ive seen and worked with people that get £1000+ a wedding, for 5hrs work and do this every weekend for months and they also do other jobs during the week photography related! amazing.

What kind of job were you offered chris and how did you get offered it? were you headhunted?

Also have you had any studio experience, how is your lighting and moreover understanding of lighting? (just curious)

I gotta admit Chris Is very good with his photography so for him to get a camera like that would be of great benefit to him...

where as.. people buying it for props n braggins and not have the skills or "creative eye" and never will,to fully realize the maximum potential of such a camera that's what gets on my tits.

for me I'm not envious of these people, I have a go cos they are Idiots not cos of the price of the thing, but purely for the blind stupidity of spending the money on something so technically out of their league just so people of equal poor photographic flair can stroke their e-Penises and admire their multiple hundred £ or $ bland unoriginal photo's

you don't buy stuff like that if your a Beginner just to post wafty pics on a forum [rofl]

to me its like buying an expensive sports car when you've just passed your test so you can impress your mates and the birds just to total it a week later cos your crap at driving

I have a driving license, but I don't own a car; haven't for about 8 years now.

Here is the full resolution image of the shot above (5616x3744 pixels, 4 second exposure, 2mb):

I have to say I am liking this camera very much indeed

congrats on this amazing body mate.
I think you need more lenses, especially that 50mm f/1.8 which HAS to be replaced as your camera now ultra-outresolves this lens...

oh well, just keep clickin, these are lovely shots!

by the way, I can tell your body is suffering from the black dots issue(by the last large shot you've posted), isn't there a firmware fix for this?

Possibly - I'll check tomorrow. I noticed a couple of black spots on that image - but nothing like some of the shots I've seen posted that have this "issue" proper...

yeah I agree it's only slight, but that would be enough to make me pursue a solution.
