Well, to be perfectly honest...

the photography is really quite poor, as is the editing. So to answer your question, no, I do not like them.

But don't be discouraged. Use this as an opportunity to set a standard upon which you can improve next time.[thumbup]

A couple of them are ok while others look like they were taken with a 3 year old camera phone.

thanks, I appreciate that.[yes]
But I have been reading this part of the forums for awhile. I noticed new comers get alot of crap. So I expected it even before posting anything. [thumbup]
Ultimately, the bride and groom do like the pics. And that makes it all worth the time and energy. So, the negativity here does not matter in the slightest.

It has nothing to do with "negativity." If you want an honest answer, sometimes it's not going to be what you want to hear. It has nothing to do with being a "newcomer."

If you want people to tell you your work is amazing when it's not, then you're never going to learn anything, and you're never going to improve. This is a lesson I learned a long, long time ago.

Yea even if they are right
maybe these people can give some "good" advise, if he wants that?

those pictures are very VERY poor... what else to say
"Yes, they were edited to look that way" so you really want them to look this bad ?

well, snw, i gotta say,

The mom/bride absolutely loves it, enough to have it framed and hanging over there mantle.
http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/r...sc_0123aa2.jpg

this one, the bride said thank you an amazing amount of times over and over, i guess the guy they hired didn't even capture her as she walked around anouncing she was about to throw the flowers tothe single girls etc.
http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/r...sc_0176sss.jpg

the groom loves this one.( his words)
http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/r...8/_7282071.jpg

the groom, bride, grandfather and grandmother all asked for copies of this one framed
http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/r...sc_0116bnw.jpg

This one they used on the cover of their wedding albums.
http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/r...8/DSC_0097.jpg

this one I like, the bride and groom had JUST finished cutting the cake and had smeared cake all over each other's faces, ad as they whiped off the cake, this little girl walked over, in her boldness, and said she wanted some cake too, as she pointed at the cake, hehehe, notice the cake still on the bride's face. Now I admit the dirty dishes make bad backdrop for it but, it captured a millisecond in time that can't be created again. and to me, it's damn cute!!!
http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/r...heresults4.jpg

I wasn't to keen on this one, as the bride was out of focus, and i wanted her to be in focus. but when they both saw it, like in stereo they both said " ohhhhh, this is awesome." I looked at them kind of as if they were on drugs or something. but the groom stood up and shook my hand and said "thank you so much"
http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/r...idencake1a.jpg

Now to me, a guy who just went to take pics, and wasn't paid a cent. To have this many and others used by the bride and groom, over and above the guy they paid thousands of dollars to? Hey like i said, the negativity here doesn't matter in the slightest to me.

and to answer your question of "so you really want them to look this bad?"
you bet i do!
Now I know, these aren't pictures of a mushroom, spider or a hamburger that people here go "GAGA" over. But,The bride and groom are happy and that makes me happy.
So for my first time out, I am sure I did much better than most. And will continue to improve as I have a blast doing this stuff..

@ the bride, the groom is a lucky guy.

As far as the pictures go, they are a little blurry for my taste, but if the bride/groom & parents are happy, then great job!

The shots themselves are very good. Better than most wedding photos I've seen. You can tell they are real and unrehearsed (that's a good thing).

thank you, The groom said to me after we were done pawwing through the pics,
They're better than Hanson's pics, and we paid him 2700.00 it's like you caught the people the way they are, not some regular same old wedding pic. They're different, more personal, as if you were takings pics of our personalities rather than a wedding and we love them."
I didn't know what to say, other than "You're welcome"
I've had the camera less than a week so i do have alot to learn still.

no need to apologize. I've rather come to like your commentary SNW. You seem to be a good person and your opinion is valuable to me.
Beauty in art, is all in the eye of the one looking at it. some people will despise it. some will love it. Nothing I can do but keep on trying. [thumbup] and that means I will try to get better and will also take the praise and the critisism along the way.

I'm not sure what kinds of opinions you're looking for. You posted this in the ART and music forum, so you're going to get some evaluations based on the aesthetic/technical qualities of your photographs--stuff like composition, lighting, exposure, etc. In those regards, your photos are lacking. In some of them, it looks like you used a very poor quality flash. Its output isn't high enough, and it's barely providing any light at all. Direct flashes also create ugly, hard-edged shadows that cheapen the look of the photo.

Some of your photos are extremely blurry and washed-out. It looks like you tried to compensate for the poor lighting by using the diffuse-glow filter in Photoshop, and it's extremely distracting from the subjects. It's totally possible to get good photos in low natural light, but you have to use a wide aperture and high ISO (if your noise levels are acceptable), and you have to have an eye for how the light is falling on your subjects.

You're not going to get any worthwhile opinions from the bride and groom. They're happy that you caught their happy moments on film, and that's all they're concerned with. They're not photographers, and they're not going to be able to evaluate your photography--and if they're friends of yours, they're NEVER going to tell you if there are flaws in your photos.

EDIT: It sounds to be like you happened to catch better MOMENTS, and the paid photographer probably took better QUALITY photographs. Now if you can just improve your photographic technique, you'll have the best of both worlds.

NOW THAT's a reply! thanks. helpful and direct.
I wasn't and will not be looking for the average every day crisp clear image that is normally seen.
After looking at alot of wedding photographer's sights and their portfolios and after seeing the pics done by the hired gun for that last wedding, I think i like being different and still having pleasing pics.
exposure and what not, well yup, i have to work on that. and a nicer zoom lens with an f2.8 constant apeture is on the way. it was REALLY TOUGH getting shots in that hall.

EDIT:
I was thinking about it, and wanted to add,
I want to be different. I don't want to be like every other guy out there snapping pics of this and that and while having a beautiful shot and all the elements being like the text books and teachers say they should, you can't tell one guys work from the next.
My goal here( in taking pics and stuff), I want people to look at my stuff and love it or hate it, but be able to say " YA, THAT's one of HIS pics" You know, like have my own style out of all the people doing this? Hope that makes sense.
but i will work at getting better at this while trying to meet my goals.

the photography itself isn't bad, look like general unstaged (as you say) photo's on the events of the day.

The only thing i dislike is the post processing, looks like you've just gone through a list of filters and effects in Photoshop, artistic effects are quite common in wedding photo's, just a bit more original and less degrading to the original image than what you have tried here.
