Default Audio editing software?
Hey all. Was wondering if there are any free or *moderately* cheap audio editing programs? Probably mostly music, but other sounds and bytes as well. Can you give any recommendations and personal experiences? thanks! [thumbup]

also something for capturing the audio of instruments (bass, keyboards, etc)

thanks! [thumbup]

Its free. Not sure if it is what your looking for. Its good for cutting, out silence and has a few build in effects.

Whenever I record my keyboard I just use Windows Media Encoder 9. The quality is sufficient for me, and it was required to download for some program, I can't remember.

I am using Cubase SX but it isnt really *cheap*. With my firewire interface I am able to record about 8 insturments and 2 mics in one shot.

You can pick up a cheap mixer with a digital interface for around $100, and almost all of them come with software. I do basic recording in my garage, and I am using an Alesis mixer with 4 XLR inputs and 4 1/4", and it is more than I need. Plus, it came with Cubase LE, which I simply love. Mostly because I can create MIDI tracks and jam/solo over them (I play drums).
