Just been round the garden and round the house snapping with my new Nikon 50mm f1.4 lense and my crappy Sigma 70-300mm 4 - 5.6 lense on my D40X.

These 2 shots above, i found it so hard to focus. Even with the focus light on in the viewfinder, it was still hit or miss as to whether i got the bush in focus, any tips?

Only adjustments made to photos were cropping.

Set your camera to use it's center focus point that how i shoot 99% of the time.

The 50mm pics of the dog & cat are good

the 300mm pics not so good to soft did you shoot handheld?

Yes, i did shoot them hand held, it's just a cheap sigma lense. I'm going to replace it with an 18-200mm Nikon af-s vr lense.
