Default Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 - Thoughts
I'm looking to buy a Digital Camera but being a begginer I don't believe an SLR is a good option for my skillset and my budget.

I've seen this Lumix and all signs say yes, but I was wondering if any of you had first hand experience with this or similar models.

I'm buying the camera mainly because my child is due next month, but when I've placated my girlfriend with a whole heap of baby photo's {yawn} I want to go out and about and get busy with some nature and local areas of interest.

Any advice would be appreciated,

My dad has a Lumix. The picture quality is pretty good, and the thing zooms like a mofo. The main downside I saw with his is a noticable oversaturation of colors (and I couldn't figure out how to reduce the saturation in-camera).

Absolutly outstanding Camera's! My GF had one of The Lumix cameras and it was simply superb. I would definatly recomend them, Built in Image stabalization, Leica Glass, and i mean the zoom is outstanding. Seriously they are great cameras. Perfect camera for a just slightly below SLR, i would highly recomend it [thumbup]

How about the Canon G9 it's practically one step down for a DSLR has some fuctions of a DSLR like RAW shooting ect plus all the features of a point and shoot.

Thanks lads, this pretty much confirms my choice and IXON, the newer FZ8 model also shoots RAW which was part of my buying criteria, so yay!

My opinion of the Lumix range is poor water color like noise reduction above 200 ISO. Although it's getting better.
