Been doing some more pottering around in the rendering shed this evening...

I've got the final materials sorted out for the Whoopee Cushion and I've made myself a Desktop Wallpaper from it which I've posted in the "Post your Desktop" thread. Here's a single close-up (ish) render of the finished article:

After I'd put that to bed, so to speak, I couldn't help but have another play around with the knife model's materials and lighting etc and I ended up doing a small-ish re-render of that too:

I'll probably do a larger, printable sized render tomorrow afternoon. After that, it's time to have another rummage in the "to be finished" box

I suppose I should have really called this thread "Lugole's "Work's in Progress", but nevermind, eh.

Once again, I could't help myself and I've rendered out yet another version of my Knife model, with the lighting a little brighter and the blade material tweaked a little bit more. This time it definitely is going to be the last render (that I post) of it, I promise

and here's the wireframe view:

So, that's two of my projects layed to rest. Let me see what's next....

It think it's going to be this little fella:

One time, I did a 3D model of a turd, I guess to go along with the toilet in my sig.

I know what you are thinking, how much fun can that be. Well, I showed the picture of it to my friend and he almost threw up! I took it as a compliment.

I am sort of an odd duck like that.

Fantastic! I love it when art makes an impact [thumbup]

I probably would have taken it one step further and animated it with full fluid/flush dynamics etc [rofl]

Do you still have the picture?

Got some work done on project "HairyBear" and I think he's looking rather good, even if I do say so myself

Thanks chris285, I'm very glad you like him

The hairs are generated by the "Hair and Fur" effects modifier that was built into 3dsmax8 onwards. It picks up the colour from the texture that is applied to the model underneath and you can also control things such as hair length and density via maps too. It's a lot of fun and it doesn't take too long to render; the pictures below took about 30 minutes each, which is quite reasonable.

Very nice [thumbup]

I didn't read all the posts so forgive me if it's already been asked, commented and/or done.

But you should post that tutorial you talked about in the first post, and others you might have made.

I really would like to get some easy tutorials to get me starting on the 3D modelling. I never did get to it, although I have access to both 3DsMax and Maya (both old though).

I could post the tutorial sometime in the next few days if you like. At the moment, it's just a series of "do this, click this" instructions and not a proper tutorial for the masses but I'll have a go at making it into one. Watch this space...

Okay, I've put together the first of my 3dsmax Tutorials which is a kind of "primer" to familiarize a new 3dsmax user with a couple of methods of creating high detailed models from low-poly meshes, with intructions on how to control how a mesh is smoothed whilst retaining the orginal shape or even smoothing whilst keeping some areas sharp; as is required for modelling a knife.

This is the very basic stuff that I had to go through with my friend before we embarked on his own knife modelling project. I hope somebody finds it useful.

I haven't done any 3D for quite some time. I downloaded the 3DS Max 8 Trial last year and did a mech tutorial project from the ground up, from the excellent 3D Palace.

I had a great deal of fun creating it that was for sure. I hope to return to doing more later when I can scrape enough money together to buy Max. I had tried Cinema 4D but just couldn't get on with it after using Max.

The price of Max scares me though, I just wish I was a student...
Which brings me to a question, does anyone know of any Online Uni course (in the UK)that deals with 3D design / animation?

Anyway here is my rather crude Mech render.

Oh and Lugole, those are some nice renders, I especially love the knife and the bear. [thumbup]

That's really great, ksimm. I'm especially impressed by the fact that you managed to get such a grip on the toolset that you could follow the tutorial in the demo period. Excellent stuff

I know what you mean about the cost of these applications, it's quite an undertaking from a financial point of view, particularly for a "hobbyist". A Credit Card comes in mighty handy in these situations, but you really have to be in a position to pay it off as quickly as possible to limit the amount of interest you pay. Fortunately for me, my Mother-in-Law lent me the money for my last udgrade so I don't have to worry about the interest at all. I just pay her regular monthy payments. She's a pretty darned good Mother-in-Law [thumbup]

I don't know of any online Uni coruses, I'm afraid, but you might get some good info on that sort of thing over at cgtalk or 3dbuzz

Thanks mate, the video tutorials over at 3d-palace were fantastic and were so much easier to follow than the written kind. Perhaps if I spent less time buying consoles and games... oh well.

I'm going to give Maya Personal Learning Edition a whirl first anyway, see how that feels. They have a Mech tutorial uo on 3d-palace, so it should be interesting to compare.

That's absolutely stunning!

You obviously have a real talent for this kind of thing, why haven't you made anything for 3 years?

This animation was my final project for my graphic design course, modeling and animate at night, render at day, took me 6 months fulltime for this clip. After the gradution I tried looking for a job as a 3d animator or anything related to 3D, too bad the opportunity is low at here not to mention the company insist on maya (mostly) while I only have beginner knowledge in 3dsmax, I didn't even given a chance [no]

Now my fulltime job (graphic designer) and gf keep me occupy all the time, don't have anymore extra time to play with 3D anymore [no]

atleast sex > 3d
