Can anybody tell me what the definition of a cult film is? I looked up a website on cult films and these are the ones I like, I've also added a few:
Any film with The Beatles - I'm not really a Beatles fan but there was a lot of humour in their films And Now For Something Completely Different Exorcist Monty python & The Holy Grail Jaws Rocky Horror Picture Show Quadrophenia - One of the best cult films Gregory's Girl - Really good film set in Scotland, with Clare Grogan from the band Altered Images Fort Apache, the Bronx - stars Paul Newman, but then he made so many good films The Hustler It's A Wonderful Life Dog Day Afternoon Scarface Star Wars Monty Python's Life Of Brian Airplane Blues Brothers Mad Max 1 & 2 Blade Runner Evil Dead - I saw the second one but was disappointed with it, haven't seen Army Of Darkness yet, but I would like to The Man With 2 Brains Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life. Repo Man Terminator 1 & 2 Blue Velvet Manhunter - Prequel to Silence Of The Lambs Wild At Heart Reservoir Dogs Groundhog Day Pump Up The Volume Pulp Fiction Reality Bites Se7en Usual Suspects Twin Peaks (Fire Walk With Me) Romeo & Juliet - with Leonardo Di Caprio True Romance |

Brandy, I have seen 'Reefer Madness' - that movie is in itīs own way hilarious and scary at the same time. Hilarious because the actors are actually 'acting', scary because there were surely some people who believed all the stories about the threatments of cannabis, especially after seeing that flick.
Other cult movies (in my very own opinion): 2001 Diva Mad Max I Night Of The Living Dead (the original 1968 movie) Blues Brothers Star Wars (except for 'The Phantom Menace') Casablanca The Longest Day Starfight Superman Buck Rogers in the 25th Century Pulp Fiction From Dusk Till Dawn Last Boy Scout Terminator 1+2 The Last Countdown The Philadelphia Experiment 1+2 Fatherland Airheads Das Boot |

The Rocky Horror picture show stands alone from a lot of movies because of the fact it has such long runs long after it's been released. I know in New Zealand it was shown at one cinema for about 2 - 3 years, so it brings new meaning to the word Cult Classic.
I would have included movies like Terminator in my list too, but to include this and many other block busters is pretty much saying any popular movie that is still immensely popular today is classed as a Cult Classic. I guess you could make an argument for Terminator because a part 3 is on it's way which means this trilogy has spread over a 20 year period. (Much like the Star Wars series I guess). So that makes it more special than a lot of other movies. |

hmmm.
The Quiet Man - don't ask. Blue Velvet Clockwork Orange - of course. Europa, Europa Liquid Sky Rocky Horror The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover Dune - the David Lynch movie And a bunch of others I can't think of right now. Bondarchuk's version of War & Peace - 6 1/2 hours of Russian with English subtitles. I wonder, does more than one person have to see a film in order for it to qualify as a cult film. lol |

Recker, I think that the definition of a cult movie isnīt very easy to make...some were considered as "cult" and were also very successful in the commercial sense. Take the example of the "Rocky Horror Picture Show"...in a Munich cinema, this movie was running over ten years in a row!
On the other hand, some were only know to a minority, or it just had a special "cult" meaning for that special viewer only (like "T2" is an absolute cult movie for me, for reasons that no one else would probably understand ![]() So, here are some more "culty" movies (for me)... Evil Dead I+II Army Of Darkness Much Ado About Nothing Leon (with Jean Reno...surely not that flick featuring Van Damme ![]() Beavis & Butthead Do America South Park: Bigger, Better & Uncut Highlander I To Wong Foo...Julie (hope the title is correct) Priscilla Black Rain The Day After Jungle Book |

Can't even look at a nitrous oxide tank in the dentist's office without thinking of Dennis Hopper. My favorites are The Last Unicorn, Labyrinth, RHPS, Spaceballs, (absolutely straight face) The Red Balloon, The Elephant Man, and Barton Fink, if that last one really counts as a cult film. I'm not 100% sure what is classed as a cult classic as some of the movies listed above seem to be blockbuster types I wouldn't include under that category. So here's my list based on the fact I have heard many of these referred to as cult classics.
A Clockwork Orange The Living Dead movies (With Dawn of the Dead at the top of the list) Bad Taste: Peter Jackson's first movie Dead Alive: Another of Peter Jackson's early movies. Reservoir Dogs (Steve Buscemi rocks!) Dazed & Confused Basket Case Morons from Outter Space Bloodbath at the House of Death Yellow Beard Monty Python's Life of Bryan Monty Python's Holy Grail |

The way I would define a cult classic is this:
It's a movie that just won't die. It may or may not have done so well when it was first released, but it's always being "kept alive" or "being revived" It never seems to be out of circulation. It will have memorable moments in it that everyone who has ever seen it will almost inevitably remember. |
