Default April 14 is Tamil New Year
The people of Tamil Nadu will again `officially' celebrate the Tamil New Year on April 14, the first day of Tamil month Chithirai, as the AIADMK regime is likely to reverse the policy decision taken by the previous DMK government.

Sources said making April 14 the Tamil New Year is likely to be part of the Governor's address on Friday. The DMK government had declared the first day of Tamil month Thai as the new year, which was opposed by the AIADMK. The Governor's address will in all likelihood have major poll promises made by the AIADMK ahead of the Assembly election.

The Governor in his address will chalk out welfare measures, such as distribution of mixies, grinders and fans, goats for farmers and laptops for students besides policy decisions on the merger of Anna universities, the introduction of the Mono Rail.

The government is also likely to announce an inquiry commission to go into the alleged irregularities in the construction of the secretariat complex.
