Explain your Avatar/User Title...
 

Righto, based on another thread where we got talking avatars, please let us know about your choice of avatars: why, when, who etc...

I tend to choose avatars based upon favourite films. To date, I have had pics from Leon, One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, Full Metal Jacket, The Big Lebowski etc. My current one is of Roy, the main replicant in Bladerunner. Superb movie, great characters - no other reason for choosing the avatar, though. My 'User Title' is from a scene in the same movie:

I've had many I suppose.

I tend to use anything that strikes me as funny at the time. I had "Insanity Prawn Boy" from weebls-stuff.com, Donald Sutherland with googly eye photoshopped on, all sorts of stuff.

My current one..... well that's got obvious.

But where does "shred lord" come from? Are you a surfer?

Spendius is a character in the novel Salammbo, which is a great read, deals with Hamilcar's return from Sicily after the first punic war, and tells about the mercenary war that follows.

I chose my current avatar after seeing Lost in la Mancha, what a great movie Gilliam was about to do...

I've only had two avatars. This one is me, doing Oroshi.

My user title changes every so often. I like using Japanese, but I can only fit three Japanese characters in the title box (something to do with the encoding) so when I come up with another a 3-character phrase I like I put it there. My last one was 野武士 - a word for bandits (think 'Seven Samurai') or armed peasants who looted battlefields. Ah, well, I play guitar (heavy metal) back in my college days and I had a habit of snapping the bass E string a lot while chugging away. That, along with my slightly crazy playing style, caused my instructor to remark one day, "Jesus Gareth, you're just some type Shred Lord aren't you". It stuck.

Mine is a picture of kenshin that I scanned and shrunk down to size. It was a gift after a student asked what one of my favorite anime was. The answer has since changed, but I still like the show and the avatar. The real picture in full size is really cool!

I am also a slayer of cockroaches since my last apartment in Japan had a bug problem and we devised many interesting ways of removing them... peacefully and not...

I base my avatar choices on stuff that i like, the one that i have now is from the LOTR MMORPG, as for my user title, well since i don't practice in a dojo anymore i put honorary next to member, i just added "lunatic" because of Sats's comment on my post in the Eating Global thread.

I have had three avatars so far I think. The first one was a pic of myself in seiza, the second was our club mon, and the one I am using now also has the club mon in it and is actually the picture on the back of our dojo t-shirts. Unfortunately it is too small to see well and I will probably change it soon.
