Default 2011 Sandover Medal tips
Time to think about who can take out this years Sandover Medal. Bensti's Combined media/club votes leader board is a good pointer and i reckon the winner will come out of the top 3 on that board at the moment.

2011 WAFL Wrap Round 23 Combined Media/Club Votes Leader Board

144 Brendan Lee (EP)
140 Luke Blackwell (CL)
138 Ross Young (P)

Ross Young is my tip, started the year slowly but has hit his straps in the second half of the season and has come home with a wet sail. Brendan Lee has always torn Perth apart so if he performs like that most weeks he is a big chance and Blackwell just gets leather poisoning every year. Rory O'Brien has also had a big year since shifting over from Peel to EF. I have only allowed 1 vote.

I reckon Lee deserves it but he might not be the kind of flashy player that wins it. In the first 2/3rds of the season I reckon Josh Smith might get quite a few. He and Blackwell might be vying for the top place at about round 15, then it might open right up with Young, Lee, Salecic and Horsley coming into the picture. Maybe Bristow also. Players with blond/curly hair get votes. But I think Blackwell might hold on.

Believe it or not, this "combined" method has fluked the Samdover Medallist all three years. Ballantyne, Young, Krakouer. But they were outright favourites each time. The method isn't going to work this season.

Yeah, he's got to be a good chance at the medal mate. Blackwell got 45 touches yesterday, so we can mark him down for a five there.

Salecic is more chance than Hutchings. He always polls well and has had another very good year in a side that has won plenty of games.

This year it's very open IMO. There are 8 that I think have a good chance of winning it whereas in previous years there have usually been 2 or 3 standouts.

Will be one of....

Salecic
Young
Horsley
O'Brien R
McNamara
Blackwell
Lee
Cook

Obviously my hope would be for Brendan Lee. I think Josh Smith has faded too much in the second half of the season to cause an upset.

Apart from Lee, I think it's pretty open.

I'm tipping blackwell because i reckon he's had a better season than last year and should poll over 35 votes. between him and young.
