Shankar's assistant floors the maestro!

This seems to be the season of assistant directors from prestigious stables to make their independent entry into the world of films. The latest to join this bandwagon is Ananthanarayanan who had his training under Shankar. His maiden directorial film Valmiki starring Kalloori Akhil, Meera Nandan and Shruthi is almost ready. Ilayaraja scores music for Valmiki. The interesting factor about this film is that Raja scoring music after he witnessed the rough draft of the film before editing.

Director Shankar’s former assistant G.Ananthanarayanan is directing his first movie, Vaalmiki. The title is an unusual one and the director explains, “Just like sage Vaalmiki was a reformed dacoit, my hero changes overnight to a new leaf” Akhil of Kaloori fame plays Pandian, a pickpocket, while Meera Nandan, the girl who made her debut in a Malayalam film Mulla plays Vandana. The heroine runs a creche and an incident unites the lead pair. What change happens to the hero and how makes a change to many lives in the society is the story....

For the first time two eagerly awaited class movies are clashing at the Tamil Nadu Box- office, this weekend.

It is billed as the clash of the class cinema- Nadodigal v/s Valmiki. The former is the first release of director turned actor Sasikumar after last year’s trend setter Subramaniapuram purely as an actor. The latter is coming from Vikatan Talkies, a reputed production house whose last release Siva Manasulla Sakthi is the sleeper hit of 2009.

Nadodigal is directed by Samuthirakani, who has made a name for himself as a good television script writer and director, while debutant Anantha Narayanan is Valmiki director. It is Sasikumar’s and Akhil’s big ticket to become saleable solo heroes.

Abhinya, a differently- abled actress who cannot speak or hear is making her debut in Nadodigal as one of the heroines, while the other heroine is Ananya. The sensational Malayalam heroine Meera Nandan, is debuting in Tamil with Valmiki.

Both the films are targeting the upper class audiences of C3 territory- Chennai and Chengalpet multiplexes and Coimbatore.

The best of the screens in these areas have been snapped up by these two films. And both the films carry clean ‘U’ certificate! [/tscii]

Pick pocket getting reformed by a lady teacher ?

Not as bad as the x number of movies on koolippadai members, but not raising the expectations much either.

Director should have really worked hard with captivating scenes / incidents & some nice comedy if the film has to click. From his choice of music, looks like the guy has decent taste.

Let's wait and see.

Is Director anathanarayanan is the one who acted in mudhalvan as a college student who fights with bus driver to attend the exam ?
