Vijayaraj (popularly known as Vijaykanth, born on August 25, 1952) is a popular Tamil actor and politician.

Personal

Born as Vijayaraja on August 25, 1952 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. His parents are K.N.Alagaswami and Aandal. He married his wife Premalatha Vijayakanth on January 31, 1990 and has two sons with her, Vijay Prabhakar and Vignesh Pandian. He is nicknamed 'Captain', as he has starred in a popular movie called "Captain Prabhakharan". "Captain Prabhakharan" was a Blockbuster of the year 1992.

Recently having entered the world of Tamil politics he has tried to change the political scene of TN, which is famous for either only having the ADMK or DMK in power. His DMDK party is remarkable for the fact that it did not align with any other party during elections.

Political Life

In 2006, Vijaykanth started a political party DMDK(Desia Murpokku Dravidar Kazhagam) and contested in Tamil nadu Elections. He won from Vridhachalam constituency which is considered as PMK stronghold. Other members of his party did not win. He was able to secure around 8% votes in his first election and in Local Election he got arround 17%.

1981 - "Thoorathu Idimuzhakkam" selected for World Film Festival in Delhi.
1986 - Best Actor Filmfare Award for "Amman Koyil Kizhakalae".
1989 - Best Actor Cinema Express Award "Poonthotta Kavalkaran".
1989 - Best Actor Award "Chindura Poove" & Film Fans Award
2001 - Kalaimamani Award by Tamil nadu Government.


Charity Works
Donates sewing machines, tricycles, Iron Box, Idli Vessels, etc., to poor people on his birthday.
Helped poor students with good marks to join colleges and accommodates in his Engineering college without charging any fee from them.
Donates Rs.25,000/- to little flower school every year.
Donates Rs.50,000/- to MGR Blind School every year.
Donated Rs 2 lakhs to Defence Personal Children Education every year.
Donated Rs.5 Lakhs to Kargil Relief fund.
Donated Rs.10 Lakhs to Kumbakonam school`s fire accident.
Donated Rs.10 Lakhs to Tsunami Relief.
