Just curious how often you guys change your oil.
Are you the type that religiously change it every 3000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first? Do you stretch it out to 5000 or 7500 miles? Do you wait until it's molasses and the engine struggles just to turn over? |

My manual also recommends every 5K. I do it on time (maybe a few hundred miles over if I take an unexpected trip and don't get in to get it changed beforehand). I take it to the dealership (only a few dollars more than a cheapo oil change place) so I have no clue what kind of oil gets put in there, LOL

I get my oil changed at Mr. Lube. They use synthetic and I take my car in every 10,000 kms (6000 miles, I think).
While we're on the subject of car maintenance, I have a question. The mechanics at Mr. Lube are constantly trying to push all these different flushes on me...engine flush, transmission flush and what not, as well as air filters, oil filters and something that cleans the gas line (?). How much of that is actually necessary and how often? |

Not all cars are the same but if you still have the manual it should tell you what the manufacturer recommends. For the women out there trust me they are not picking on you. They do it to me every time. |

Manufacturers specifications 5K - 7.5K depending on driving conditions. Follow all manufacturers specs for all maintenence. I've gotten 200,000 miles on several vehicles doing that, and they were still running when I sold them. Got a 1992 Chevy K1500 with over 300,000 and still kicking.
Some people swear by synthetic - but I think it's over rated for the average vehicle. If the manufacturer says synthetic, then I'd use synthetic and follow their maintenance intervals. |
