Default Fori outbreaks on Atlantic era albums
Fori was manageable in those days, a bit like herpes or diabetes. Someone here once said that China was the original or "Ur" Fori scare. Good point, I thought. It was always there, inside of her. But what about the other canonical Atlantic albums? 1,000 Oceans is TVAB's, without a doubt.

I can't imagine in what ways Pandora's Aquarium is fori-esque. I've gone a little cool on Tori of late, but it came on shuffle as I was walking a couple of days ago, and I went 'you know, this is really an excellent song, just excellent.' If Choirgirl has a fori moment (and it may not?), I'd nominate Northern Lad.

The nuances in her voice at the "God, who painted that?" part redeem any possible Foriness in Northern Lad. I guess the Fori outbreak in Choirgirl would be Jackie's Strength.

The lyrics save Jackie's Strength for me.

Northern Lad and Roosterspur Bridge sound somewhat similar, so I guess if it was between Jackie and NL, I'd pick NL.

The first outbreak of Fori for me was 1000 Oceans for sure.

I had my first Fori outbreak when I heard Raspberry Swirl: sinsual lyrics, minimal piano, and it only exists because she wanted to cash in on the momentum from PW remix/Blue Skies.

LOL. I love that usage.

"It burned when I urinated. I thought Fori was a one-time thing. It wasn't."

1000 oceans definitely. It's also for Mac, right? Really heartfelt though.

TVAB was a massive flare-up. A lot of the musicians I loved in the mid-90's put out their "electronica-influenced" albums in 98-99, but at the time I thought Tori's was especially tacky, especially alongside ITD? or even Adore. It sounded really lazy. Like she just added lots of whooshy sounds and talked about it as if she was some cutting-edge studio wizard.

TVAB wasn't as experimental as some people said it was, but I'd love for Fori to do something as comparatively wild as Datura, nowadays.

When I first heard TVAB I thought it was the most amazing thing ever. I realized much later that it wasn't. But I still adore it and don't find it Fori-esque in the least. It was when she was still taking risks.

What is ITD?

I don't think Fori is capable of electronic music, tacky or otherwise, without trampling all over it with a cavalcade of guitars and drums.

Not on an Atlantic album, but during the era: Can't remember the origin of the quote, but basically she was going to be in a movie, and it didn't work out. Talking about it later, she complained that they wanted her character to wear Doc Martens, and her repulsed reaction was something like, "Ew...I have BEAUTIFUL shoes, I'm not wearing those!" The comment irked me then, but now I see what was creeping its wigged head...

I agree about Jackie's Strength. That was the first time I really noticed it.

I'm going to say Choirgirl is Fori free.
JS has great lyrics and a great video to support
and NL still has some delish high "becauuuuuuuuuse of the rain" notes
Choirgirl can do no wrong in my eyes

Venus was Fori laden for me. It was the first time something felt "off".

Me too, it sounds just a little more polished than the earlier piano-orchestral ballads, not enough to spoil it but just a slight amber alert.

I don't have a problem with 1000 Oceans at all though! There's dark and light in the lyrics and the slow melody still takes interesting twists and turns. Ok snoozy piano playing I suppose.

It really isn't that experimental, no. I think it was a nice departure and experiment with trip-hop and electronica, but really, those scenes were pretty bustling in the mid-late 90s.

Addressing the OP, "Glory of the 80s" was the first time something seemed a bit off.
