On the bright side, at least Gregg didn't have to quit due to corruption or tax issues.
Well of course not, he's a Republican.[/troll]

Watching Winston and Drake impotently froth at the mouth is a constant source of amusement to me...

Maybe the 2010 Census won't be badly mismanaged now .

Froth at the mouth? I'm just killing time before I go out to drink and get laid.
Good one Drake, nice to see you're supporting your nation's economy.

Looking after the service industries is particularly important during the credit crisis - brewers, bars, the local prostitutes...

Nominating a Republican who voted to abolish the Commerce Department to head that same Commerce Department had innate problems.

Gregg is just another one of those Republicans who believes that, despite the outcome of the last election, the only course to follow is that of Republican dogma. Obama keeps reaching out his hand, and Republicans keep biting it. They don't seem to grasp the fact that, if they keep insisting on a one-party government, theirs is NOT the party that's going to be ruling.

'Cause the House Dems showed themselves to be soooo bipartisan
Have I said a good word about Pelosi -- ever?! Or Reid, for that matter.
There's a pair of bozos for you.

The priapism would have killed me last week if this were the case.

I don't understand why this is a criticism. If Drake's a member of the opposition, what exactly is the problem with him crowing about his side's victories?

Because he and a few others whinged like little girls when it was happening to Bush.
And now some Obama supporters are doing the same thing when Drake and others bring up shortcomings about Obama.

What comes around goes around - people on both sides can accuse the other side of being guilty of some kind of same behavior that people on their own side have engaged in.

It seems a little naive to nominate someone before you determine that they dont agree with anything you want to do. Aside from the embarrassment, the whole situation is kinda "meh" except for the pathetic attempts by the whitehouse staff to spin the situation.

It all depends on who you believe, I guess. Gregg apparently has taken the blame, saying that it was he who changed his mind... other (unnamed) sources claim he was essentially forced out.

I don't really care.

But seriously. Does anyone think that letting EITHER political party manage the census, which will basically dictate which states get more Congressional seats and will influence Congressional districts, is a good idea? Does anyone other than Barack Obama and Rahm Emanuel think that letting this process be managed by an ultra-partisan from either party (in this case, Rahm Emanuel) manage the census is a good idea?

Come on. I wouldn't want Karl Rove doing it, either.
Forget it dude. They're killing all the legitimate issues here by burying them under tons of crap posts.

On a Thursday? How're your grades looking?

It's my last semester. Grades don't matter any more.

BTW, mission accomplished.

I don't think that it's the census or stimulus. The census has always been primarily WH engineered, and the stimulus is broadly similar to what Obama proposed before he announced Gregg (only more Republican - aid to states was significantly reduced, and the AMT fix was attached to the bill). Rather, he realized that he'd have far more power as a swing vote for cloture than holding the most irrelevant Cabinet post. Look at how Collins, Nelson, Snowe, Specter, and Lieberman engineered the Senate bill.
