Just like Republicans attacked the stimulus plan for not doing enough to help home owners then one week later after Obama revealed his plan to help home owners the Repugs flip flopped and said helping home owners was bad. They're just the party of "NO" who will oppose anything no matter what it is as long as Democrats say it. Even if Obama incorporates their ideas/talking points into his plans. They're just obstructionists who have no new ideas and no plans to make America better.

You know, call me crazy, but I opened this thread hoping to read commentary on what Obama said.

Was there anything worth commenting on?

It wasn't even remotely original. It was the same old "Government sucks, kill the government" crap the Republicans have been shoveling for 30 years.
Oerdin, don't be a dick. It was original! It's the Republican's template form speech. The RNC did write it, you know.

I thought Obama did a great job tyiing the issues of education, health care, and energy with our over-arching economic crisis. He illustrated how by dealing with those other issues, we will also be on our way to getting out of this severe recession.

And it was not Obama who made the mistake of saying United States invented the automobile - the dude who wrote the speech is responsible for that. But I guess Obama should have caught that mistake before he took the stage.

While the US did not invent the automobile, we are certainly most identified with it.
I also liked his appeal to teenagers to finish school and get some advanced education or training, and letting them know how much they are needed.

At least he didn't claim to invent the internet!

Next time on, "A Funny Thing Happened at The Forum" Biden claims to have discovered fire moments before messing up Nancy Pelosi's hair!

What?
Blaming the speechwriter absolves Presidents of anything they say during speeches.

So Obama is not responsible for preparing to give his speech by reading it before hand?

In any event, I think you could make the argument that we invented the automobile in its current form - ie, the transportation method of the masses. The Benz automobile was certainly not something that the middle class of Germany were going to be using.

I've listened to a lot of MLK speeches It's pretty similar to "I've seen the promised land".

It sounds like he's planning to bring back some form of AmeriCorps (essentially dumped by Reagan), requesting the Hatch-Kennedy bill rewarding national service be passed and sent to his desk. You mean the slavery bill?

There's no precedent for compulsory national service without compensation.
