"He was not himself when addled by the habitual and relatively long-lasting using of illegal drugs.” If his use of illegal use of drugs was habitual and long-lasting how can it be said that in such a state he was not himself? Sounds like addled had become his habitual and long-lasting condition. Maybe he and Gary Busey can share a cell.
