Default It was an accident!
It's revenge for the time when the US captured and imprisoned Canadians who were lucky to be alive after their boat capsized along the great lakes and they washed up ashore in the US...

I've been to Cuba. The resorts there are nicer than Mexico.

From the article it seems it's less about revenge or karma, and more about that just being how Cuba treats those caught in their country without the proper identification. I don't feel a lot of sympathy for the couple. If I were sailing around the Caribbean, I would have taken the time to pack my passport even if I hadn't intended to stop anywhere. I'm no fan of Cuba but I don't see anything wrong with what they did. Besides, now they have a cool story to tell at parties Maybe they can even write a book.

Their prison conditions are deplorable by the description in the OP article.

Our holiday there was nice.

The lack of toilet seats is not unusual there though.
You've convinced me. That sounds like just the place I want to go on vacation.
Why not just camp in the woods and crap next to a bear?

Hawaii has toilets though. I'm amused by Canadians commenting considering their outhouses. :P

There's no American tourists in Cuba.
Sure there are, just not officially. It's real hard for the U.S. to stop Americans from going on their own yachts or from third countries. Cuba is even kind enough not to stamp the passports, so the Yankees won't get in trouble when they get back home. People are only infrequently prosecuted. Hell, Brian Moore held a news conference in Cuba back when he was running for the U.S. Senate spot from Florida in 2006, and the Feds never touched him.

Cuba has a better healthcare system than Texas.
And they're like 10 times better educated also.
