Basically if McCain can hold Ohio and Florida and somehow get Pennsylvania (maybe Virginia too, I don't recall), he gets 270 to Obama's 268. Of course that's unlikely, and she even said as much. But with the probable attempt of voter fraud by the GOP they have somewhere around 20-30% chance, I figure.

Her predictive powers are very bad. I think it's more of a defense mechanism to avoid disappointment if the worst should happen. Personally, I think it would suck to go through life like that.

To ardently hope for something and actually have it happen is a singular joy of life I can't imagine being without. It's a lot better than pleasant surprises, IMO, even if you have to suffer disappointments along the way as well.

It's not that we pessimists don't have hopes, after all.

I think quite a few Dems are like that this year, based on 2000/04 when it seems they should have won (or did win, depending on your POV). It's worse in Chicago, with both our baseball teams playing like Democrats in the playoffs.

Ohio, N Carolina, and Virginia are all still in play. I don't see how McCain can win Pennsylvania, but remember it only took 1 week for the GOP to implode. The dems still have time.

Why bother in Illinois anyway, when there's a ~20% spread?

Poor McCain. The guy's wife's a multi-millionaire, but he can't even buy a break:

Alaska's largest newspaper endorses Obama

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The Anchorage Daily News, Alaska's largest newspaper, has endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for president.

The newspaper said Sunday the Democrat "brings far more promise to the office. In a time of grave economic crisis, he displays thoughtful analysis, enlists wise counsel and operates with a cool, steady hand."

The Daily News said since the economic crisis has emerged, Republican presidential candidate John McCain has "stumbled and fumbled badly" in dealing with it.

"Of the two candidates, Sen. Obama better understands the mortgage meltdown's root causes and has the judgment and intelligence to shape a solution, as well as the leadership to rally the country behind it," the paper said.

The Daily News said Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has shown the country why she is a success as governor. But the paper said few would argue that Palin is truly ready to step into the job of being president despite her passion, charisma and strong work ethic.

"Gov. Palin's nomination clearly alters the landscape for Alaskans as we survey this race for the presidency — but it does not overwhelm all other judgment. The election, after all is said and down, is not about Sarah Palin, and our sober view is that her running mate, Sen. John McCain, is the wrong choice for president at this critical time for our nation," the paper said.

"Like picking Sen. McCain for president, putting her one 72-year-old heartbeat from the leadership of the free world is just too risky at this time," the paper concluded. http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5j...gjy9wD942CGJ80

Well we know Kissinger does. I'd imagine Alexander Haig would back McCain over Obama. George Shultz undoubtedly would be a McCain supporter. James Baker probably would be as well and Lawrence Engleburger (though he only served as SecState for like a month).

And I'd guess Condi Rice backs him (that would be 6), though I don't know if she's come out and said it.
