Ah, cross post with Zkribbler.
That is exactly why I wasn't sure I was right. I remembered there being two words that were related, and I was pretty sure Psychosomatic was the one I didn't want, but couldn't think of the correct word (hypochondriac). So in the last 3 minutes I've had the wrong word confirmed for me, and then taken away and instead had my doubts confirmed. Haha. |

Actually, it's hypocondria. No it isn't. Hypochondria is excessive fear that one has a disease. Originally posted by Zkribbler Psychosomatic means a physicial disease brought on by the mind. Nope. Psychosomatic symptoms are often completely within the mind. Originally posted by Zkribbler A good example is an ulcer. That's a bad example of a physical disease brought by the mind. Helicobacter pylori is the cause of most (peptic) ulcers. |

A few metaphors: Albatross (or "albatross around your neck") Millstone Ball and chain Do any of these phrases work? Can you think of what the etymology might be? (Greek, Latin, French etc.) |
