Default Failure to Pay a Prostitute: Rape or Theft?
Of course it's rape. Prostitution is rape.

I don't think it's either. Why the hell don't prostitutes get paid up front?

What Lorizael said.

I'm curious, Ludd, about your position on prostitution = rape. I'm not exactly a big fan of the "world's oldest profession" but I'm not sure I follow.

-Arrian Prostitutes don't really want to have sex with you.

If you rape a person and leave a hundred dollar bill behind, it is still rape.

Oh, I agree they don't want to have sex with you, but they agree to in exchange for money.

This analogy is somewhat strained, but bear with me...

I don't *want* to be here in my cubicle handling environmental claims, either. But I do it because they pay me.

Ludd's problem is that rape isn't "sex with someone who doesn't want to have sex with you," it's "sex with someone who doesn't consent to have sex with you."

In Australia it isn't rape to intentionally fail to pay a prostitute for sex. It is still a crime though--procuring sexual penetration by fraud (a crime that covers any kind of fraud really, not just prostitution). It has a lesser penalty attached and does not consider whether the other person, i.e. the prostitute, actually consented to the penetration--rather only whether the intercourse was procured by some fraud or another.

Yes, but he's charged with rape.

It would still be rape, however, if you could argue that sex under conditions other than those you dictate (i.e. getting paid for the act) is not sex you want to have, and so becomes nonconsenual when those conditions are not met (the bastard doesn't pay you).

I don't buy it.

Hence the term wage slavery. Free yourself! Offering money is coercion? I disagree.

I *knew* wage slavery was coming. Bah.

Our core beliefs are probably too far apart to find any middle ground on this one. I agree to disagree.

I do buy that argument, btw. It's perfectly reasonable, IMO.

Don't like it? Think it's unfair, or worried about false accusations? Don't buy (or pretend you're going to buy) sex.

She thinks the hookers and the customers help one another. She dreams of moving to Nevada, where prostitution is legal. is that the only state that it's legal in?

What's so god damned holy about money that the exchange of currency makes an action, which is otherwise considered evil, acceptable?

Absolutely not.

Yes, many prostitutes work nonconensually, and those could certainly be considered rape, but a woman can give consent to sex for reasons other then currently wanting sex.

I wonder how Vegas would prosecute this if the guy was going into legal brothels and running out without paying.
