why don't you just come out and ask for free accommodation?

You definitely have time.

As for prices... if you want to go ultra cheap I can give you tips. But I assume you don't want to rough it, so anything beyond the bare minimum in prices I"m not the one to ask.

But I echo LS: DC Polymeet.

So looking on DC and everything to the north of it - what is the time period in which I can still enjoy myself? Enjoy yourself? In the North? In the Winter?

does it even snow in NY? Yes, it does. Not usually in November, but it will be cold, with a good chance of wet too.

Average temp in NYC in November is 8 degrees C. According to the same website (EuroWEATHER, heh), it's not a particularly wet month. Hmm. Edit: in F, the average high in Nov is 54 degrees, and the average low is 41.

And last year, of course, we had a really warm autumn/early winter up here. So you never know. Weather in the NE is pretty variable.

Not to mention when you're suffering in sweltering heat, and I'm comfortable up North.

Ok, you say the focus is on cities. Are you thinking Boston-NY-Philly-D.C. ?

Autumn in New York

[ella]
Autumn in new york
Why does it seem so inviting
Autumn in new york
It spells the thrill of first-nighting

Glittering crowds and shimmering clouds
In canyons of steel
They’re making me feel - I’m home

It’s autumn in new york
That brings the promise of new love
Autumn in new york
Is often mingled with pain

Dreamers with empty hands
They sigh for exotic lands

It’s autumn in new york
It’s good to live it again

[louis]
Autumn in new york
The gleaming rooftops at sundown
Oh, autumn in new york
It lifts you up when you run down

Yes, jaded rou‚s and gay divorc‚es
Who lunch at the ritz
Will tell you that it’s divine

This autumn in new york
Transforms the slums into mayfair
Oh, autumn in new york
You’ll need no castles in spain

Yes, lovers that bless the dark
On the benches in central park
Greet autumn in new york
It’s good to live it again

[trumpet solo]

[ella]
Autumn in new york
That brings the promise of new love
Autumn in new york
Is often mingled with pain

Dreamers with empty hands
They sigh for exotic lands

It’s autumn in new york
It’s good to live it again

How do you define ultra-cheap? Dumpster diving?

So what's the consensus on the weather? Cold isn't critical as long as life and traffic move on and there are stuff to do. Frankly, the last time I saw snow was when I was 6 and I don't remember anything, so I wouldn't mind seeing some, within the limits of reason.

LOTM:
I think there are some friends of relatives at whose place I can stay a day or two, but it's something I prefer to consider as a potential boon, not as part of the plan.

Arrian:
The NY Subway prices look great! 24$ for an unlimited 7 day pass is amazingly cheap.

Ok, you say the focus is on cities. Are you thinking Boston-NY-Philly-D.C. ?

Yeah, and their vicinities. I think I'll focus on NY and DC. I might do Toronto if it's not too expensive and/or too much hassle.

DinoDoc:
He's missing the best parts of the country probably the cheapest parts as well.

I'm looking for the most stuff to do in the smallest geographical area. The south is a bit of a problem in that regard.

LOTM again:
Kind of makes renting a car imperative. Doesnt sound like the trip Eli has in mind.

Yeah. No car renting unless it's for something special.
